I am writing this review after having leveled to 50 and completing the campaign for the base storyline. Devotion Shrines are scattered throughout the world. All these in combination make the depth of creating your own character interesting and varied. The cherry on top is the fact that the player can multi-class.

The constellation map is pretty to look at and is full of choices greatly enhancing the playstyle. In order to enhance your character even further, you unlock shrines in your adventures freeing up devotion points in a constellation of choices. You earn a point to add to a trait under your character profile and then earn three points (2 after 50) towards your class or classes. Heres my Grim Dawn Devotion video showing you guys where all the shrines are and a quick how-to on the system. The game really shines in the complexity of building your character’s skills and abilities. Professions help to create components, gear, and consumables. Components picked up while adventuring can enhance the strength of your gear. The gear is all over the place but the challenge is in finding what you’re looking for.

If I have to kill someone in game for a bit of info read, then by all means, come taste the blade. The main thing I recommend to new players is do them if they're A) Infested because its a little XP bubble and B) If the cost to repair doesn't make you go 'Ew.' If its three Ancient hearts or a relic then thats a no, if its just mats, you're probably better off repairing it for the loot. I’m missing a few odds and ends but finding the pieces to the storytelling puzzle is quite satisfying. Surprisingly, I’ve become addicted to collecting and reading the bits of lore looted throughout the game as journal entries, letters, and books despite the terribly depressing stories. Similar to Titan Quest, the player can initially choose one out of several different classes, known as Masteries, each focusing on different gameplay styles. Thank you loot filter! It can become an overwhelming challenge quickly. At some point, I decided to only pick up the rares and better and turned off the ability to see the items of lower quality. Of course, as in every ARPG, there is a ton of loot. I ran out of time to play it as thoroughly as I would have liked.

Wow! The roguelike area is impressive and filled with a challenge if you’re looking for it. I randomly discovered an area that needed to be unlocked with a skeleton key and had no idea what I was getting into until after being there for a while. Do it right and you get levels rep and all devotions in under 2 hours, which means nothing youve done is wasted time.

I wanted to start at the hardest mode but had to finish the main campaign to unlock that ability. I think that would be an overstep in simplification - there are tools that let you mod for all the devotion points or you run a little bit of crucible to kick start the process then run the easiest shrines from norm and elite. The bosses can be tough but satisfyingly so.
